Agreed. But one matter has always bothered me. Do you know of _any_ nation that industrialized without an unacceptably high number of "unnecessary" deaths? In percentage terms how did u.s. slavery and Soviet collectivization compare? And of course one of the things that makes Soviet industrialization look bloodier than British industrialization was that in the British case many of the deaths occurred outside England (e.g. Chinese destroyed by opium; Indian weavers destroyed by Manchester cotton).
