MOSCOW, April 25. US Ambassador to Russia Alexander Vershbow did not rule out that Russian oil contracts with Iraq, signed before the military operations, could remain valid. He voiced this opinion in a live interview with Mayak radio. According to the Ambassador, a decision should be made on each contract separately. He stressed that these decisions would be up to the new Iraqi government to be formed in the next few days and not Washington. At the same time, Vershbow believes it is too early to raise the issue of compensations for losses of Russian oil companies in Iraq.
Vershbow announced that the US Administration welcomed Russia's participation in the development and restoration of the Iraqi economy. He also confirmed the USA was going to spend from $50m to $100m for the restoration of the Iraqi economy.
