They do use different concepts and techniques. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics produces comparable employment and unemployment stats; see <http://www.bls.gov/fls/home.htm>. The OECD does too; see <ttp://www.oecd.org/topicstatsportal/0,2647,en_2825_495670_2759248_1_1_1_1,00.html> (though they charge for lots of their data).
