Interesting, especially in connection with the "War on Terror." It seems
that the Bush administration is trying a similar approach to eliminating
terrorists -- try to stamp out the most influential and well-connected
nodes. Of course, after the first stab at the problem, in Afghanistan,
it tried the indiscriminate approach that the Inquision first tried.
That is, it snatched up every "terrorist" it could find and deposited
them at Guantanimo. But it seems that after that it switched to the more
sophisticated method.
Of course, they should keep in mind that the Inquisition mopped up most
of the "heretics," but eventually lost the war -- with the Reformation.
