Close to 60 activists, intellectuals, and leaders of civil organizations from a dozen countries are subject to monitoring by Mexican authorities on the eve of the WTO Summit that will be held in Cancun from 10 to 14 September.
A national security document that Reforma had access to lists a broad range of WTO critics, including promoters of marches during the G8 Summit held in Genoa in 2001 -- in which an Italian activist was killed -- and leaders of important Latin American social movements, including members of parliaments, philosophers, journalists, and leaders of non-governmental organizations.
