Grant, I forgot to mention what is obviously the fiercest nationalism in the 
fSU, Chechen nationalism. See article below.

BTW the "independence" demonstration in Georgia in 1990 on which Gorbachev 
called the troops was not a nice pro-democracy thing as it was portrayed in 
the West: It started out as a protest against the hated Abkhaz.
