The Taibbi thing was a mildly amusing satire, but I hasten to inform 
list members who have no actual experience with living in the US that it 
is quite inaccurate in many respects.

In particular, it is hardly true that US-ers have no sex. Where does 
Taibbi think all the baby US-ers come from? Very few from IVF. (And 
that's not counting the gay sex.)
