I suspect that the Bush regime is busy wrapping itself up in a cocoon of denial about what regular folks think about experincing another four years of Bush. Conservatives like Matt Drudge only help create this cocoon with his headlines about how the economy is doing well and how Bush's approval rating is really high. They are going to be in for a dose of cold reality six months from now when the Democrats narrow down their field of candidates, the economy continues to suck, and the wars against terrorism drag on.

Bush is just not going to be elected, barring some kind of 9-11 "miracle," and that might not even help the guy. Out here in Kansas City, people are worried about the economy. People are fighting for holiday retail jobs. Folks are talking about outsourcing, layoffs, and the economy. The paper here is filled with letters to the editor opposed to the war. I don't see any patriotic shit on cars or trucks and Bush/Cheney bumperstickers are a rare sight. Granted, Kansas City has gotten more liberal than it was 15 years ago, but this is still Republican country.

If I were betting on the results of the 2004 election, I wouldn't put my money on Bush.
