Sorry for reading this out of context...I pulled this from Joanna's comment. However, I dont think respect for the individual is the right term. What happens under capitalism by way of "commodity fetishism" is that the social nature of work gets hidden more and more under and so we get the impression that the world is created by lone individuals.

Any criticisms we might make of Marx, his discussion of commodity fetishism is among his most important, if not THE MOST IMPORTANT, of his contributions.
