Look, I am not a fan of the KPRF. What I object to is the disconnection with reality. They are not and have never been "red-brown." They are a large, basically social-democratic party with occasionally mildly nationalist rhetoric. Pugliese is unable to see this because a) he doesn't know Russian and b) almost everything written about the KPRF in English is colored by the Yeltsin PR machine, which sought to portray everybody opposed to Yeltsin as a fascist (and even invented one, Zhirinovsky). This was done in order to convince the West to look away while he and his cronies looted the country. In all this harping on red-brown this and that, Pugliese is de facto nothing else but a useful idiot covering for the Russian Mafia, a point John Mage can make better than I.

Note how all the "red-brown" hysteria vanished immediately after Yeltsin won (well, stole, actually) the 1996 presidential election. The spin machine had done its work.
