The spoof was accomplished using a technique called *Google bombing*. Google's algorithm returns results based upon references from other websites, the theory being that sites of great value will be referenced often by many others. Google's success and proven usefulness demonstrates the theory's validity.
By *seeding* many sites with multiple references linking *miserable failure* with whitehouse.gov you can push Google to return the results you want.
