Gotta love the Western press portraying the Chechnya thing as between 
"Russians" and "Chechens." The hostages in the photo don't look terribly 
Russian to me. Actually Dagestan is the most anti-Chechen republic in 
Russia, what with being invaded by mujaheedin and whatnot and being the main 
target of the kidnap/slave trade. Dagestan's population is only about 25% 
Russian. The most populous grup is the Avars.
