Of the 3 million Polish Jews, only about a quarter (according to post-war registration stats) of a million survived - most of them in the x-USSR, who returned to Poland after WWII (between 1945 and 1947).

Although the socialist government of Poland removed all institutional aspects of anti-semitism (e.g. Jews could for the first time take government jobs, which earned the socialist government the scornful label "judeo-communism") the negative attitudes of the surviving Jews toward Poland intensified in that time period. The idea that the Nazi death camp were somehow connected to Polish aniti-semitism originated in that time. *******************************************************

I've always been curious about those Jews who came back to Poland from the USSR. My sense of things (which could be entirely wrong) is that a lot of Jews came back to Poland with a vengence. I wonder how many ended up in the police and or army apparatus of post-WWII Poland. I remember seeing Andrzej Wajda's "Ashes and Diamonds" and wondering how much anti-Jewish feeling was stoked by bourgeois nationalist disappointments of one sort or another.

Since then, and to the present time, I have been a fighting member of the Socialist Party. My fighting record for the Cause is not, even at this late date, already entirely forgotten. Trained in the class struggle, as taught and practised by the Socialist Labor Party, my own highest judgement concurring, I believe that the working class, by fighting, by never fusing, by never making terms with the enemy, could emancipate itself.
