Correct. But my post was rather roughly worded and gave lots of room for misunderstanding.
And I should have added that "situational depression," especially if repeated or long-lasting can morph into clinical depression. And then it gets more complicated. I'm pretty sure that I've suffered from varying degrees of depression since around 12 or 13 (really serious insomnia for one thing). Hence it wasn't caused by the death of my first wife. But that almost certainly initiated a deeper spiral, along with the general chaos of the '60s and coming very very close to getting fired.
