Yeah, how did people get so anthropocentric? (Standard historical explanation: Christianity puts the salvation of mankind as the centerpiece of its theology, then Christian theology drops out but idea of man as center of the universe remains.)

I used to have a probably not-very-funny running joke with a friend that it was obvious that God was really a giant squid and that human beings had only been created to serve the squidocentric purpose of wiping out the sperm whale.
