Does anyone have any theories WHY the definition of feminism in many quarters at least in the US has collapsed to litmus tests around one issue?
For the good reason that subordinating womens personal identities to their reproductive systems is key to maintaining a whole range of traditional feminine subordinations in the traditional feudal situation in the family. Doug put it well at the beginning of this discussion. By contrast, for abortion to be available diminishes the quaintness of feminine status. One thrust of socialist movements has always been to help people move out of pre-capitalist statuses into the worker role. This is a key progressive component of reproductive choice.
