Environmental courts likely in India soon
TIMES NEWS NETWORK
NEW DELHI: India may soon have environment courts once the Law Commission completes its review of the country's environment laws.
This follows a Supreme Court judgment in 2000 which suggested that the Law Commission review the laws and the need for constituting environmental courts in the country.
Sources say the proposed courts will be in tune with the emerging globalisation of the Indian economy with a growing concern for protection of environment and ecological balance'.
As first reported in The Times of India one objective of the review would be consolidation and codification.
Presenty, everything is scattered - laws, rules, orders, notifications, principles enunciated in judicial decisions. "There are too many authorities. The laws and decisions are scattered," said a law ministry source.
