On the (ironic that some in the New Left mirrored his arguments) "working class authoritarianism" thesis see Richard Hamilton, "Class and Politics in the USA, " which rubbishes Lipset's methodology and #ers.
(A Hamilton book I want to find, by the reviews in such as Contemporary Sociology of the ASA says Marx had it wrong in the Eighteenth Brumaire. Wonderful pamphlet though.
Also a newsh book by Michele Lamont. The Dignity of Working Men Morality and the Boundaries of Race, Class, and Immigration <URL: http://www.hup.harvard.edu/catalog/LAMDIG.html > -- Michael Pugliese
"Without knowing that we knew nothing, we went on talking without listening to
each other. Sometimes we flattered and praised each other, understanding that
we would be flattered and praised in return. Other times we abused and shouted
at each other, as if we were in a madhouse." -Tolstoy
