Those of us who are keen critics of the Washington Post frequently find nuanced examples of that paper's pro-government bias in how they spin regular AP stories.

The front page of WashingtonPost.com currently featured this story about the Blix spectacle, with the following headline:

Iraq Fails to Account for Key Materials, Blix Says No weapons of mass destruction have been uncovered, but suspected stocks of anthrax, VX gas still sought.

This is a pro-war spin on the actual AP news story which has the following headline:

Blix: No Weapons of Mass Destruction Seen By Edith M. Lederer

The Post does use a variation of this headline for the story which is linked from subpages on the website:

Blix: No Weapons of Mass Destruction Found Chief Inspector Says Many Materials Unaccounted For By Edith M. Lederer Associated Press Writer Friday, February 14, 2003; 12:12 PM

To put it bluntly, the Post is spinning the news to favor a pro-war position regarding Iraq.

"The state can't give you free speech, and the state can't take it away. You're born with it, like your eyes, like your ears. Freedom is something you assume, then you wait for someone to try to take it away. The degree to which you resist is the degree to which you are free..." ---Utah Phillips
