And Robert Reich, uberliberal, said early in his term as labor secretary: "The jury is still out on whether the traditional union is necessary for the new workplace." But most Dems are constrained in what they can say publicly about unions, since they want their campaign checks. I was thinking more of rank-and-file liberals - like the ones on my college class listserv, who think unions are vulgar, obsolete, racist/sexist, rigid, corrupt, etc.
