The Independent Media Institute is a nonprofit public-interest media company that empowers people with independent journalism, information and media tools. Our programs include AlterNet.org (www.alternet.org), the SPIN Project (www.spinproject.org), and Wiretap (www.wiretapmag.org).

AlterNet.org is a well established and growing web magazine and public interest information source with more than one million unique visitors monthly. AlterNet seeks a highly motivated person for the new position of Associate Publisher.

The Associate Publisher will manage AlterNet's communication and business functions, supervise WireTap.org, a sister site for socially conscious youth, oversee special projects especially collaborations with other independent media groups and be a key participant in development, editorial expansion, and strategic planning.

The Associate Publisher will be responsible for: - AlterNet syndication, which distributes content to 130 weekly newspapers; - Revenue-producing aspects of the AlterNet and WireTap web sites including advertising and contributions from readers; - Communications and marketing for the AlterNet sites; - Collaboration and partnerships with other journalism, public interest and progressive web sites; - Expansion of AlterNet's issue areas and content files.

The Associate Publisher is a management-level position and reports to the Executive Director. The ideal candidate is committed to reaching millions of people around the globe with AlterNet's unique mix of quality journalism and information to encourage active engagement in public life. The candidate is politically aware, action-oriented, business minded, creative and versatile. The candidate should have editorial, marketing and communication skills and preferably experience in supervision and the Internet. The candidate should be able to function effectively in a diverse workplace.

Salary is $40-50,000 FT /DOE. ( 80% is possible) Benefits include health, dental, vision, retirement, and four weeks of vacation/year plus regular holidays.
