How does Clark attacking a US client dictatorship in Taiwan NOT indicate alliance with the CCP on the mainland? Admittedly, the dynamics of the democracy movement in Taiwan, which had independence-oriented views, might not have been perfectly in line with CCP views, but emphasizing the dictatorial aspects of Taiwan was very important at the time for deflecting criticism from China in the aftermath of Tienamen Square.
