This reference to "Identity" by Lance Murdoch reveals an all-too-common bit of historical ignorance. Many people on this list in the past have referred to black struggles in the '60s or the women's struggles of the late '60s and early '70s as "identity politics." But both the label _and_ the actuality only came into existence _after_ those movements had lost their initial drive. "Identity politcs" were a _retreat_ from anti-racist struggles. No one talked about "identity" in the '60s.
