This is not true. H&N do not get rid of the word "proleteriat". They do claim that the "industrial proleteriat" is just one among many revolutionary subjects and therefore do not ascribe to it the central privileged role it once had. The term "Multitude" does not replace proleteriat; it rather is used in favor of the term "masses", which is a term Leninists use to homogenize and "unite" the various anti-capitalist tendancies. The term Multitude suggests that these various tendancies are "singularities" and have differing wants and needs.

I will subsequently post Negri's latest essay on the "Multitudes" in which he defines the term (dont think it has been posted here yet). By the way, that essay will be included in the upcoming work- Empire 2 (though that wont be the name)-being presently written by Hardt and Negri.
