Radical America (now defuct, no, alas?) had a contentious interview with Kanan Makiya in '92. He was a Trotskyist of the Mandelite USFI flavor.Selections from, , "Republic of Fear, " are in in the new , "Saddaam Hussein Reader." Though, the whole book, blurbed by Michael Rogin, is well worth a read, as is, "Cruelty and Fear, " on the Kurdish uprising in the aftermath of the Gulf War and the equivocal reaction of some of the Arab intelligentsia. He founded a archival documentation project at Harvard to store zillions of seized Ba'athist regime docs from the repressive apparatuses.
