Q. Would a war with Iraq be bad for the overall job market?

A. Not necessarily. While it is difficult to say there is anything positive about a war, it is possible that it could create job opportunities in a number of industries.

As more job opportunities arise, job seekers, particularly those who have experienced prolonged joblessness - spanning six months or more in some cases - will expand their job searches to these new industries and new geographic regions.

The industries that will benefit the most from a war are: equipment manufacturing; special services such as cargo handling, air traffic control, medical technicians; energy/petroleum exploration; health care; and non combat defense jobs such as accounting, information technology and corporate communications. ...
