Silicon Valley was also the privileged recipient of tons and tons of military subsidies, public funding of state universities, etc. And now all these layers of covert state socialism are being ripped apart, sort of like those research cities built by the Soviet Union. East Asia is going to own most of the chip biz, because they're hungry, egalitarian and invest in brain cells. I suppose the Valley is going through its very own Matrix-moment, its "unplugging" and awakening into the terrifying Desert of the Real.
