because it is a huge opportunity for the current gvt to create precedents of sending troops outside UN missions.

the gvt has been working a lot to legaly re-militarize the country since, as you maybe know, the constitution does not allow for military forces to be maintained.

this is a major issue for the conservatives here and interpretation of the constitution has systematicaly been twisted in the last 50 years to allow for "self defense forces" to be maintained.

the last ten years have seen legislation that allows the sdf to take part in un lead pko, legislation against terrorism, (very recent) legislation that allows japan to "strike first" in case of probable attack (related to the north korean fantasy) and now, after to unconditional support to the us, legislation that is going to allow the sdf to be used outside un led operations.

scary.
