Anyone that wanted to know knew that Iraq's military capacity had shrunk to zero after the Gulf War. The purpose of "commenting on how we'd sold it to him in the first place" was not an acknowedgment that Iraq had such weapons _now_. The purpose was the quite separate one of showing that the U.S. had always been as big a criminal as it was now. It was criminal for 'giving' Iraq weapons. It was criminal for taking those weapons away. Iraq had a perfect right to any weapon that any other nation had a right to.
