The dominant approach in Ohio is not to give a damn about the ideological baggage of left-wingers calling for a national mobilization in D.C. or NYC or whatever as long as it's for a good cause, such as the cause of Bringing the Troops Home and Ending the Occupation of Iraq, and to make efforts to maximize the turnout.

There was the July 4 mobilization in Philadelphia: <http://www.justiceinjuly.org/issues.html>. The turnout was in the thousands, I think. Bush decided not to make his appearance in Philly, and it's usually hard to get a lot of people out on a big holiday when families get together for cookouts, parades, and the like.

The July 27th Armistice to Peace Campaign will be holding a protest in D.C. on July 27: <http://www.july27.org/>. This protest has been endorsed by UFPJ, but I'm not sure if UFPJ has done much more than put it on its home page <http://www.unitedforpeace.org/>. Why don't you support it if you don't find anything objectionable in the program?

UFPJ might get around to issuing a call to action against the Occupation of Iraq on August 9. A lot of organizations must be already incorporating the Iraq angle into their annual Hiroshima & Nagasaki commemorations on August 6-9 anyway. -- Yoshie
