A week ago it seemed that the US might be forced to plead with others for help in keeping the peace, even if that meant going the UN route. It is in a stronger position now, as the job suddenly looks easier.
Professor Juan Cole of Informed Comment says that he doubts the deaths will actually have much of an impact on the resistance. If this is true, and if the Times' suggestion is also true, then we could see more foot dragging while the resistance continues apace.
