In an interview with the venerable Amy Goodman on Democracy Now!, he goes even further.

According to Fisk the, to borrow a phrase from Hong Kong action flicks, 'heroic bloodshed' style of the brothers' departure may wipe their sins clean in the minds of some and refashion them in death as men who didn't punk out in the face of foreign invaders.

Yes, they were bastards - monsters even - but at least they fought hard and saved the last bullet for themselves (the legend that's already accruing around Uday).

This is one of the prominent threads of opinion Fisk says.

He bases this conclusion upon conversations with a variety of folks in Baghdad (where he's now staying) and his long experience with the culture and region.

If he's anywhere near right (and he has a solid track record) we can imagine what might happen if Saddam were to go out in a similar blaze of fire.

It would be ironic, and extraordinarily bad news for American personnel, if a sort of cult of the gangster bad ass were to grow from these assassinations.
