According to Philippine Star editor Max Soliven, inteviewed on TV here this
a.m., the "coup" is, in large part, a protest against the way the war
against Islamist separatists (the MILF) is being conducted, especially
evidence of official corruption such as (e.g.) the recent escape of Jemaah
Islamiyah member Fathur Rohman al-Ghozi from custody in Manila,.and the
steady stream of state-of-the-art weaponry ending up in rebel hands.
