First of all, it was a 767.

Second of all, you've read this report incorrectly:

- At 0902, when 2WTC was hit, the fighters were 71 miles away. They were launched from Falmouth (153 miles to WTC) at 0852; 10 minutes later they were 71 miles away. Their ETA WTC was 0910 ...

Interestingly, NORAD says "156 miles" from Otis to Manhattan; my maps show this to be more like 190, even if it were a straight line (which I'm sure it wasn't).
