JKS: "What is strange, though, is the bizarre focus on 9/11 as a unique crime that stands outside history ... But somehow Geras has allowed this particular crime to upset his entire vision of the world."

True, but is this kind of reaction to 9/11 as much effect as cause of a change in vision? Was Hitchens post 9/11 a bolt from the blue? A man who overcame his immense distaste for Clinton to support him on Yugoslavia - except when attacking him from the right? I can not cite chapter and verse but believe that Geras supported the first Gulf war. There is no one-to-one correspondence between positions on the two wars (see Hitchens), but why be surprised that a supporter of the first should support the second? Just for the record: last NLR that Geras was associated with as an editorial committee member was #196, Nov-Dec 1992
