Julie Burchill, meanwhile, a self-confessed Stalinist who still boasts that she supported the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan in 1979, wrote last week that it was nationalist to oppose attacking Iraq. ******************************************************

One shouldn't confuse reason with ideology. To see the Soviet supported government of Afghanistan as being a better situation for the common person (especially women) than any of the governments which followed or preceeded it, is a rational, empirical observation, just as opposing the plunge of Anglo-Saxon Imperial power into the loins of the Middle East is a rational judgement based on working class interest.

Neither nationalist nor Stalinist,

===== ***************************************************************** Those who take the most from the table, teach contentment. Those for whom the taxes are destined, demand sacrifice. Those who eat their fill, speak to the hungry, of wonderful times to come. Those who lead the country into the abyss, call ruling difficult, for ordinary folk. -- Bertolt Brecht http://profiles.yahoo.com/swillsqueal
