[lbo-talk] The Media, was Why There is No WMD Outrage

Studies show that roughly 85% of Americans get their news from TV. Reliance on TV for information is in inverse proportion to education level.

I submit that most blame for public ignorance about WMDs stems from 1) the hideous TV coverage of the WMD issue before and during the war, and 2) years of racism in *all* media that leads people to think that *of course* those crazy Arabs used weapons -- they're all irrational terrorists, right?

One corollary -- as any TV or radio broadcaster will tell you, producers get most of *their* news from newspapers. So papers share a good deal of the blame, too, although in more of an indirect way.
