In the late-80s, on one of Manhattan Cable's public access channels, Allen Ginsberg was chatting about politics and culture with some other, lesser known Beat-era artists. When the topic of Jesse Helms came up, Ginsberg launched into a cadenced rant about how Helms was a "commie pinko weirdo" who should be arrested at once. The other guys stared at him. Ginsberg merely laughed to himself.
