Good article and excellent point. Here in Texas, an example of this hypocrisy exists in the new state law passed mandating a "moment of silence" and recitation of both the state and the US pledges of allegiance by every public school student in the state. Previously, different districts had different policies and in Houston's district, it was up to individual principals to set the policy on the pledge for their schools (and there was none of this covert prayer).

When the state mandates property tax sharing by rich districts with poor districts (the so-called Robin Hood plan), it's an egregious imposition on local districts by the state. When they want to impose theocracy, it's well, God's will (or something). They sure don't feel any need to explain the inconsistency.
