We'll know that US political culture has overcome the trauma of the Red Purge, when the WWP and political parties like it won't feel obliged to stay in such political closets as the IAC and the International ANSWER and when many progressive groups will be still willing to work with revolutionary Marxists out of the political closets. There are some Marxists in unions and the like, but they are not out.

That you were thought of as having "leftwing 'commie' views" says a lot about the depressing narrowness of US political culture.

An organization that tolerates red-baiting within will also tolerate red-baiting in US political culture. There is a local Green guy who regularly engages in red-baiting both anarchists and socialists and who is subscribed to the Committee for Justice in Palestine discussion listserv; whenever he gets too insistent, others ask him to take his crusade offlist. -- Yoshie
