I am puzzled that there could be any question about this. Clear U.S. hegemony is an unmitigated disaster for the human species. (Doug himself has often noted that the fall of the FSU was a disaster for the world.)
The world would be considerably better off, for example, if (say) Iran, Egypt, & Brazil all had nuclear weapons. Doug has argued for a gradualist achievement of socialism. That is a daydream, but it would be a less bizarre daydream in a world in which u.s. imperialism were blocked both by other imperialisms and by greater military and economic strength in third world countries.
