Code Pink

The Code Pink action in Washington, DC today turned into a fun, colorful event. The turnout was pretty good--at least 5000--helped in part by the first day of nice, sunny weather that we've had since last Fall.

Everybody assembled at Malcom X Park and then marched down 16th street to the White House. I marched with a contingent of local anarchist friends who had formed up the "F.A.G. Bloc." I spent most of the march carrying one end of a banner that read: "FISTS ARE 4 FUCKING, NOT FOR FIGHTING." We also had signs that read "MASTURBATE FOR PEACE" and my favorite, "TIT CLAMPS NOT WAR CAMPS." We were joined at points by the radical cheerleader bloc.

The march got to Lafayette Park where there was a moderate showing by the police, designed to keep protesters out of the park. Everybody went around the block to the Ellipse. After people hung out on the Ellipse, the sidewalks around the blocks surrounding the White House were filled with one long human chain.

If we're going to have rallies and marches like this, I think this style is the way to go. ;-)

"The state can't give you free speech, and the state can't take it away. You're born with it, like your eyes, like your ears. Freedom is something you assume, then you wait for someone to try to take it away. The degree to which you resist is the degree to which you are free..." ---Utah Phillips
