Whence Stalin's popularity?

I knew that Solzhenitsyn had squandered his capital, and anyway had long ago wandered offinto Slavophil lunacy. It's encouraging about Medvedev. Is he still a socialist? At the end od the perestroika period he was actually appointed to a CC post in the CPSU, if I recall correctly. What are his politics today? Does he have any organized affiliation?

Solzh.'s capital was wiped out in the 70s by taking a hawkish stance toward the USSR.

I don't know much about Medvedev's current situation. If he is involved in politics, it's very low-profile. He's always introduced as a historian first and foremost.
