I knew that Solzhenitsyn had squandered his capital,
and anyway had long ago wandered offinto Slavophil
lunacy. It's encouraging about Medvedev. Is he still a
socialist? At the end od the perestroika period he was
actually appointed to a CC post in the CPSU, if I
recall correctly. What are his politics today? Does he
have any organized affiliation?

Solzh.'s capital was wiped out in the 70s by taking a hawkish stance toward
the USSR.
I don't know much about Medvedev's current situation. If he is involved in
politics, it's very low-profile. He's always introduced as a historian first
and foremost.
