Well, the cold, rational, critical response would be to say that the horror of the impending petro-slaughter is due to the fact that it isn't really a break from the past: the horror is the continuity of the violence. The first Bush arranged a pleasant little oil war to keep the mercs sharp and test some new equipment; tens of thousands of Iraqis paid the price. Then Clinton's oily speechifying accompanied vicious sanctions and regular bombing raids, killing at least 500,000 Iraqis. Now comes the flattening of Baghdad, a city of 5 million.
But another part of me just wants to throw up.
