Brief word from Chicago, somewhere between 5,000-15,000 protestors marched from the Federal Building in the Loop, staritng at 5 pm, down Lakeshore Drive to the other end of the Loop at Michigan Ave -- that part was inspiring. Then the cops surrounded us, herded us onto a side street --Chicago Ave east of Michigan, surrounded us many deep, riot troopers in full armor, would let us go for hours, between 7.45 and 10.45, arrested hundreds, no one was breaking the law, a police commander told me the charge was probably "mob action," beat several people, broke one guy's arm with a baton. Scary stuff. I was there as a Guild Legal observer. More details to follow. jks
