"Get US out of UN" petition

Petition being circulated by the ultra-right Newsmax.com. It mentions the
sponsor, Ron Paul (R) of Texas,a "stalwart defender of liberty." Paul
represents the "bore from within" component of the Libertarian Party, who
try to work within the Repubs much as stealth Christians do. What this
email doesn't mention is that Paul also opposed -- at least as of a few
months ago -- the current Bush war on Iraq. (Not sure where he stands now.)

It's time to get the U.S. out of the U.N. -- and YOU can help.

For nearly 60 years, the United Nations has marched relentlessly towards
its vision of a socialistic, one-world government, all the while being
financed by U.S. taxpayers.

Now, as Gary Bauer (cwfpac.com) said, the U.N. "has become worthless. This
collection of dictatorial and predominately Muslim regimes routinely
condemns Israel, but refuses to enforce its own disarmament resolutions
against Saddam Hussein. It has no purpose other than to restrain the
United States from doing what it cannot find the courage to do. Its human
rights committee has been taken over by human rights abusers. Its
disarmament committee is soon to be chaired by Iraq. In Zimbabwe, hundreds
of thousands of Africans are facing starvation at the hands of their own
thuggish government, but the U.N. stands by silently."

We contribute 25% of the U.N. budget since its inception, but it's not
enough. No matter what we do, the U.N. continues its attacks on U.S.
interests and sovereignty, while we continue to pay their bills. It's time
to put a STOP to this nonsense.

Finally, we have a chance to do just that!

Congressman Ron Paul (R-TX), a stalwart defender of American sovereignty
and liberty, has re-introduced H.R. 1146, The American Sovereignty
Restoration Act. This bill would repeal the United Nations Participation
Act of 1945 and other specified related laws. If passed, it would direct
the President to terminate U.S. participation in the United Nations,
including any organ, specialized agency, commission, or other affiliated
body. It would also require the closure of the U.S. Mission to the U.N.,
and FORCE the U.N. OUT of the U.S.

H.R. 1146 would also PROHIBIT (1) the authorization of funds for the U.S.
assessed or voluntary contribution to the U.N.; (2) the authorization of
funds for any U.S. contribution to any U.N. military operation; and (3)
the expenditure of funds to support the participation of U.S. armed forces
as part of any U.N. military or peacekeeping operation. Finally, H.R. 1146
would bar U.S. armed forces from serving under U.N. command.

Sounds GREAT, right? There's just one hitch:

This bill, with 6 co-sponsors, is *stuck* in the International Relations
committee, where it will die a slow death without quick support.

And that's where WE come in.
