Top Bush Anti-Terror Adviser Resigns

WASHINGTON - The No. 2 anti-terror official in President Bush (news - web sites)'s National Security Council has resigned, the

second high-ranking White House official in the war on terrorism to quit this year.

Rand Beers, the NSC's senior director for counterterrorism, resigned this week, citing personal reasons, spokesman Sean

McCormack said. It wasn't clear what Beers' last day will be. He had served in the role since August.

McCormack said he had no indication that the resignation was related to the war against Iraq (news - web sites).

Richard A. Clarke, Bush's cyber-terror adviser, resigned in January. He was Bush's counterterrorism coordinator at the time of the

Sept. 11 attacks.
