So much for bloodless war

It looks like Shock and Awe will soon take its place in the pantheon of unbelievable follies. The only effect it seems to have had on the Iraqis is to embolden them.

So far the war is shaping up to be exactly the one the Pentagon didn't want to fight and warned against.

Interestingly, the reason the US is fighting this way is because of international opposition to the war, which prevented half the men and materiel from getting to the battlefield in time. If the men in charge were rational, they would have called it off. But because they're mad, they didn't. Their greatest and only fear was that if they didn't do it now, they might never get to do it.
