I didn't read Keller's piece in the NYT, but CP's resignation would be very damaging to the junta, at least as far a public opinion. Many of the pro-war republicans I have spoken with have great esteem for Powell and consider him a honorable statesmen (of course, they know nothing about his career.) If Powell bailed now, he would take a lot of the less ideologically committed repubs with him. Too bad it won't happen.
