As a result of the war up to now I know and am listened to by 20 to 40 additional people in Bloomington/Normal Illinois, and there are several hundred here involved in political activity for the first time in their lives. In private conversations with many of them I have been continuously raising one point: the present surge won't last, the Endless War launched by Bush will continuously resume, and we have to build for a core to survive until the next high spot. That is almost certainly happening all over the world.

You say "The political battle is lost." _What_ political battle -- and what political war? I don't know whether he ever actually said it or not, but a friend 30 years ago quoted Lenin as saying that there are three revolutionary virtues: Patience, Patience, and Patience. Whether he said it or not he should have. It fits the thrust of his whole life.

We need to avoid the Bipolar syndrome: periods of excessive elation followed by plunges into the dumps.
